City Gallery: A History of the Future: Imagining Melbourne, curated by Clare Williamson in an exhibition shows what Melbs could have become. Exhibition is open until Friday 12 August 2016. [CBD]
The Malthouse Theatre: In The Bleak Midwinter, THE RABBLE present a series of absences. Their ritualistic sacrifice of the arts. Tickets available on the Malthouse website, prices vary between $20 and $35. [Southbank]
City of Melbourne: Melbourne’s amateur photographers are invited to showcase their talent with crisp, fun and creative images based on the theme: How green is your Melbourne? Entries close 29 August.

Emerging Writer’s Festival: Happening all around Melbourne this week, the festival celebrates up and coming writers, it’s running from 14 June to 24 June, make sure you head out and check out on of the many events and shows.

Tinning Street Presents: Minor Handling. An installation of textile and video elements by Melbourne based artist Bess Davey. Opening night 6pm – 9pm. [Brunswick]
Heartlands 2016, Stories from refugee youth: using film and art for young people to share their stories. Opening 6pm – 8pm, at the Footscray Community Arts Centre. [Footrscray]
Blindside: Screen Series curated by Simone Hine + Kyle Weise. 6pm – 8pm. [CBD]

Alternating Art Space: Four solo exhibitions by Myra McElhinney, Phoebe Beard + Sorcha Mackenzie, Adriane Hayward and Michael Hawkins. 6pm – 8pm. [Windsor]
Magnet Galleries Melbourne: Presents “Stars – A Photographer’s Benefit”. The benefit is being hosted on behalf of lifetime photographer, Skip Watkins. Many prominent photographers are donating special photographs of famous people they have photographed. Opening at 6.30pm, the exhibition will run until 3 July. [CBD]
Melbourne Arts Club: Tonight we are hosting a student exhibition from 6pm-10pm, come on over and check out the wonderful works the students have created. [Preston]

Gallerysmith Project Space: Startdust by Richard Knafelc Exhibition Opening. 2pm -4pm. [North Melbourne]

Gertrude Glasshouse: Presents ‘Positions’ by Ross Coulter. The work explores representations of sexuality and the body in a series depicting pornographic videos projected onto the naked figure. Opening night between 4pm – 6pm. [Fitzroy]
Footscray Community Arts Centre: Women of the Elephants. Featuring an all women cast, Shhhh explores the terrain around womanhood and where listening, disability, and gender intersect. 7pm start. Tickets $20 full/$15 concession. [Footscray]
Arts Project Australia: Georgia Szmerling presents ‘Secret Garden’, a portrayal of decorative plants. Opening night 3pm – 5pm. [Northcote]
Dark Mofo: Savages hit up the Odeon Theatre in Hobart. Doors open at 7pm. Tickets are $49 + booking fee. 18+ only event. [Hobart]
Emerging Art Australia’s June exhibition: Largest group show from Emerging Art Australia. Hosted at 69 Smith Street Gallery. The exhibition includes works by Alison Ferret, Betty Holloway and Brooke Amanda Goddard to name a few. Opening night between 4pm-6pm. [Fitzroy]

Emerging Writers Festival: Telia Nevile and other artists present ‘Sticks and Stones’ a performance that comments on the degrading nature of the English language that technology has brought upon us. Showing at The Toff In Town at 7.30pm. Tickets $17 full/$15 concession. [CBD]

Emerging Writers Festival: REAL FAKE WHITE DIRT by Jess Holly Bates is a funny, fresh and incisive avalanche of post-colonial anxiety and aspiration. 7pm, Guild Theatre, Union House, University of Melbourne. Tickets $17 full and $15 concession. [Parkville]
